This guide is meant to help you understand how to install interior closet bi-fold doors. Depending on the type of door you have, there may be slight variations; make sure to follow proper safety practices and contact a professional if it becomes too difficult.
You will need the following tools for the installation:
Prepare the finished door opening per the charts below.
Install top pivot(s), guide roller(s) and bottom pivot(s) by drilling 7/16" diameter holes, 2" deep, as shown. Install the hinges on the edge of the panels, centering the third hinge.
Mount the track using 1" flat head screws so the face of the door is flush with or slightly recessed from the opening face. If needed, cut the track to 1/8" less than the finished opening.
Install jamb bracket so center line of bracket is aligned with center line of track. Bracket must rest firmly on the floor, or on wood block if additional clearance is required for carpeting.
NOTE: There are different bottom jamb brackets that may come in different sizes. Please refer to your bracket for proper installation.
VERTICAL ADJUSTMENT: Lift the door and adjust the bottom pivot until there is minimal top clearance with the track. Adjust the pivot hole to provide proper clearance on the jamb.
HORIZONTAL ADJUSTMENT: To move the top pivot, remove the panel(s), loosen the screw and adjust as needed.
Guide the top pivot into the top pivot bracket hole of the track assembly. Lift the door and place the bottom pivot into the jamb bracket. Depress the guide roller and insert into the track.
NOTE: If you have a 4-panel folding door, proceed to Step 7. If you don't, skip to Step 8.
4-PANEL ONLY: Install aligners on the rear of the door using pan head screws. Adjust the doors in or out until they're aligned with each other; then tighten the screws.
NOTE: This is for 4-panel only. If you do not have a 4-panel, you can skip this step.
Locate the door knobs approximately 36" from the floor and centered in the leading door panel(s). Drill 7/64" hole(s) into the door and attach the door knob(s).
Your bi-fold door is now installed and is ready to be used.
